Nena's Restaurant

Our History

Our History – A Legacy of Flavor

Since 1978, Mary Serbantez, lovingly known as Nena, built Nena’s Restaurant into a beloved staple in Brazoria County, serving authentic homemade breakfast and lunch with a commitment to quality and tradition. From the beginning, Nena’s goal was simple—to make every guest feel like family while sharing the rich flavors of her heritage through time-honored recipes.

Our family recipes have been passed down through generations, keeping our flavors authentic and true to tradition. Our menu offers a wide variety of traditional Mexican favorites, including Breakfast Tacos, Tortas, Breakfast Plates, Taquitos, and more.

In 1978, we also introduced a local legend—the Original Hippo Taco. What started as a hearty, flavor-packed taco quickly became a customer favorite, making Nena’s the official home of the Hippo Taco.

For several decades, Nena’s was located in Clute, Texas, where it became a community favorite. Over the years, we’ve expanded to serve more of Brazoria County, and today, we proudly operate two locations—Lake Jackson and Angleton.

  • Our Lake Jackson location offers both dine-in and takeout, making it the perfect place to sit down and enjoy a homemade meal. For pickup orders, please use our dedicated pick-up area located behind the building.

  • Our Angleton location is designed for quick and easy takeout, so you can grab your favorite Nena’s dishes fresh and fast.

Though Mary Serbantez (Nena) is no longer with us, her legacy, recipes, and love for the community continue to live on through every dish we serve. Thank you for being part of the Nena’s family—we look forward to serving you for generations to come!
